Over the past 22 years in dentistry, my vision grew from 1 practice to 12 practices across Scotland with an appetite to grow even further. Since opening the first squat practice in Pitlochry in 2007, it has been an enjoyable journey with plenty of experience gained and many stories to be told.
Between managing the business, working clinically, and my passion for long distance triathlon & ultra running, I have learned that the key to life is to be passionate about not separating work and play by enjoying what you do every day.
Dr. Chris Barrowman
Infinityblu Dental Care & Implant Clinics Business Owner & Full Arch Dental Implants Dentist
Welcome
I fell into Dentistry and the business of Dentistry by coincidence; I was a little lost as to what the future held for me at time of university applications and had the science qualifications, when a close friend suggested Dentistry. I was open to suggestions and loved the work experience, so the Dentistry journey began. This resulted in a move from my hometown Glasgow to study dentistry at Dundee University and that is where my journey began.
The first few years after graduating in 2001 involved a year in general dental practice, then a further 12 months shared between teaching dental students in the dental hospital as a senior dental officer and working local to Dundee as a community dental officer giving me the opportunity to explore and experience all sectors, eventually settling for general practice heavily influenced by my urge to change the way we approach dentistry and the way we interact with the patients and the team.
I always felt something was missing in the dental patient experience, and with that focused on my mind, my wife and I moved to Pitlochry to open my own practice where I would have the freedom to explore my passion and treat patients and create the customer journey the way I believed it should be. This was in 2006 when there was no such thing as the patient journey, no patient experience, no business of dentistry.

It has been an amazing journey seeing my vision come to life and a great satisfaction of achievement. It’s has not always been easy and there has been many of obstacles during the way, many failures, but with the right mindset, vision and support around you, anything can be achieved.

Last week, Infinityblu Operations Manager Julie and I had the pleasure of attending the UK Dental Groups Forum in Barcelona. What a brilliant event it was!
I’ve been invited the last 2 years but the dates have clashed with it landing either on the weekend an Ironman race, or would have affected the prep of an upcoming race. I wonder now what was more important!
The two-day forum brought together a wide range of dental groups from across the UK, alongside an impressive line-up of suppliers and speakers from both the UK and even the USA.
From the moment we arrived, it was clear that this wasn’t just another Dental event. This was an opportunity to network, connect, share, and learn alongside some of the most respected names and dental groups in the industry. From the engaging 15 minute ‘speed dating’ supplier meetings to thought-provoking talks from industry leaders, to the networking breaks that sparked some great conversations (and future collaborations) it was just superb.
The W Hotel, OMG the views were absolutely incredible! The whole experience and format helped foster open discussions and genuine relationship-building, something that can often be hard to achieve when we’re all too busy to take some time out of the day to day running on the business and ‘what’s important’.
The contacts we made and the ideas we exchanged were incredibly valuable, not just for Infinityblu, but for the continued improvement of patient care and practice growth across the dental sector.
Scotland of course was top of our agenda, we had some great day conversations and shared our pains together over evening drinks, but all of us in UK groups will benefit from these events and conversations. There’s no doubt that events like this are vital in keeping our profession moving forward through shared experience, innovation, and collaboration.
Huge thanks to the team at OpenRoom events for organising such an incredible and rewarding experience and to everyone we had the pleasure of speaking with.
Here’s to everyone who I had the pleasure of spending time with! To the weather, the stunning hotel, the conversations, the sea views, the first Wet deck party of the season which was a perfect timed surprise, and the dental disco party
June 2026 we’ll be in Marbella

This weekend I completed the Full Tilt Ultra, a 58km trail run through Glen Tilt which started in Blair Atholl in the heart of Highland Perthshire. True to form, the Scottish weather showed up in all its wild glory: sideways driving rain, bog, mist, just enough wind mixed in to make it almost impossible to see by kilometre 40.
The route itself? A beast in itself but just stunning.
We started at Blair Castle then ran deep in the glen and took on two of Perthshire’s 1000-meter Munros, Cairn a’ Chlamain and Beinn Dearg, both wrapped in cloud and wind about half way to the summit. The climbing were relentless, the descents needed taken at speed although with. great care, and the terrain just kept shifting from rocky paths to river crossings to that thick, energy-sapping bog that we know the Scottish hills are known for.

Our Dentists, Therapists and Hygienists from across all 12 practices came together for an inspiring Periodontal Day with one of the UK’s leading voices in gum health, Specialist Periodontist Hatem Algraffee Dr Hatem Algraffee | Specialist Periodontist | London & Kent.
We were thrilled to welcome Hatem for a deep dive into periodontal diagnosis, treatment planning and protocols, an engaging session that sharpened our clinical knowledge and strengthened our team connection. A huge thank you to Hatem for sharing his passion and expertise with us. Read the full blog here!
