About Me

I fell into Dentistry and the business of Dentistry by coincidence; I was a little lost as to what the future held for me at time of university applications and had the science qualifications, when a close friend suggested Dentistry. I was open to suggestions and loved the work experience, so the Dentistry journey began. This resulted in a move from my hometown Glasgow to study dentistry at Dundee University and that is where my journey began.

The first few years after graduating in 2001 involved a year in general dental practice, then a further 12 months shared between teaching dental students in the dental hospital as a senior dental officer and working local to Dundee as a community dental officer giving me the opportunity to explore and experience all sectors, eventually settling for general practice heavily influenced by my urge to change the way we approach dentistry and the way we interact with the patients and the team.

I always felt something was missing in the dental patient experience, and with that focused on my mind, my wife and I moved to Pitlochry to open my own practice where I would have the freedom to explore my passion and treat patients and create the customer journey the way I believed it should be. This was in 2006 when there was no such thing as the patient journey, no patient experience, no business of dentistry.

In 2006 I purchased my first premises, a fruit and veg wholesale business and property, refurbished it fully, learning as a went, and transformed it into my very first squat practice. The project took about 12 months by the time we opened our doors as Infinityblu Dental Care and welcomed our first patients. Within this space, I was able to implement many of my ideas of what dentistry should be about and really focusing on the patients and providing a gold standard experience and journey. To focus on how patients ‘feel’ when they visit the dentist, a dental practice set within a contemporary space, completely ahead of the game in Dentistry. Many years ahead of the game. Multiple dental awards followed, as did more acquisitions and squats taking me to where we are today. May lessons learned, many mistakes, failures, setbacks, but with each of these I learned and developed.

I have such a passion for Dentistry, to mix being a clinical dentist and the business side of Dentistry. Early stages as my first experience of setting up my own squat practice, and the mistakes I made over and over, this enabled me to grow my increasing interest in the business side of things in Dentistry, learn from these mistakes, grow more resilient, thereby creating through further squats and acquisitions to create and expend the Infinityblu brand into several branches across Perthshire. I wanted to create a group of practices where our service and patient journey was replicated across all our sites, that when patients walk into a practice, they know they have walked into an Infinityblu dental practice.

From the world class service, the patient experience, the surroundings, the team, the treatment options, right through the patient journey they have no doubt they are part of an Infinityblu practice.

Many ask where Infinityblu came from, and this is the story.

When I was setting up the practice in Pitlochry in 2006, I wanted to ensure it wasn’t like any of the usual routine dental practices but something different. Somewhere that it would be all about the experience, how patients feel, great dentistry, all in a patient centred approach in a contemporary setting. There was nothing like this in 2007.

It needed to be a name that created a strong brand, but also wanted something related to the relaxed/contemporary environment. Something unique, but not specific to Pitlochry so I could have other practices out with Pitlochry.

We were celebrating our honeymoon in Mauritius in the Heritage report and there was a lovely restaurant on the beach we ate in a few times, by far our favourite restaurant. It was literally on the beach, so the floor was the sand of the actual beach. It was called infinity blue. We were enjoying dinner one evening, discussing again a name, and Steph suggested, why not Infinityblu. Immediately it just seemed the perfect name especially for the reason that firstly it was special to us, but also it seemed so perfect a name for dentistry, the word ‘infinity’ imagining the long term endless care for our patients and their smiles, and blue being the calming colour, the thought of infinity pools and relaxing, all tied into what I was passionate about achieving, creating a brand focused on the feel, the dentistry the patients deserve, listening to the patients, and a patient focused experience.

We have now grown to a group of 12 practices across Scotland stretching from Perthshire, Stirlingshire, and Scottish Borders to Fife. We currently have over 40 dentists, 10 therapists/hygienists and over 125 employees working across the practices, all with the focus to ensure that our 55,000 plus patients get the very best in both experience and dentistry when they visit and Infinityblu practice, and the fact that both the team and patients are the main drivers of the Infinityblu mission and ethos is inspiration to each and every one because of how patients are made to feel when they visit us or when they are part of an Infinityblu team.

It has been an amazing journey seeing my vision come to life and a great satisfaction of achievement. It’s has not always been easy and there has been many of obstacles during the way, many failures, but with the right mindset, vision and support around you, anything can be achieved.

With over 20+ years’ experience in dental Implants, I now focus my clinical time providing Dental Implants. I work over most of the Infinityblu sites providing implant solutions from single/multiple implants to restore single or multiple spaces, implants to support implant supported removable dentures, through to Full Mouth Dental Implants with immediate loaded same day teeth.

Providing the digitally led patient journey and implant planning to allow me to offer advanced Full Arch Dental Implant treatments across the practices is my current primary clinical focus, along with focusing on the business approach to grow the number of Infinityblu sites across Scotland.

Nothing gives more satisfaction and a sense of contentment when you transform people’s lives and give them back the confidence to really enjoy life and smile freely with dental implants.

I provide dental implants to our currently registered patients, and patients referred to me from their own general dental practitioner or local GP, plus a huge amount of my workload is from patients who self-refer themselves to discuss how dental implants can transform their life.

When providing Full Mouth Dental Implants, I strive to use the highest technology in dentistry to give the best possible results to my patients, and by using the digitally led process, most cases only take as little as 3 hours. Common presenting issues from my patients are those generally fed up with their teeth, loose dentures, loss of confidence with their teeth, gum disease, multiple spaces, been told by other dentists they can’t have implants, don’t have enough bone for implants, putting their hand over their mouth when smiling and laughing, not smiling for holiday photos. These patients can leave the surgery in a matter of hours with a new confidence in their natural looking, functioning, and fixed teeth.

Outside of Dentistry I enjoy anything outdoors or fitness related. So far in 2023 , I’ve completed Lanzarote Ironman, known to be the hardest Ironman on the planet, entailing 3.8km sea swim, 180km bike and 42.2km run, and the UTMB qualifying running race, the Mozart 100, covering a total distance of 107 km in the Austrian Alps with over 5400m in elevation.
